Description

Inspire the inventor and scientist in you during this week of discovery and invention. Each day children will be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from world famous inventors and the most important thing of all– your mind! If you were stranded on a desert island how would you survive? You will need to build shelter, find food and purify water, protect yourself and your teammates from the elements and find a way off the island. Journey to the future and examine the ultramodern inventions of the 23rd century. Then design the future - today! Create mini light sabers, mini-space stations, and electric flying contraptions. With a little bit of ingenuity, you’ll construct catapults and forts, build Ruberg contraptions that perform simple tasks, and experiment with humanoid robots. Take home projects include ping-pong ball launchers, mousetrap contraption cars, mystery sticks, tubular blow darts, and other wacky contraptions. While Thomas Edison said, “invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration” this camp is 100% FUN!

Additional Information

EUREKA Camp: Rock, Paper, Scissors
Inventing means curiosity! Leonardo da Vinci started as an artist and developed many scientific observations that he recorded in his notebooks over the course of his lifetime. Typically Day 1 of this camp.
EUREKA Camp: Science Fiction
Inventing means dreaming! Children will design submarines that rise or sink, wind-up space stations, and design safety capsules for payloads returning from space among other space themed hands-on activities. Typically Day 5 of this camp.
EUREKA Camp: Shipwrecked
Inventing means necessity! Children are put on a "deserted island" in which they must work together to invent a means for collecting food and water, build shelters, bridges and learn about density among other hands-on activities. Typically Day 3 of camp
EUREKA Camp: Think Fast
Inventing means cooperation! The children then step into space by launching self-built rockets and loading a payload capsule puzzle. These flight fanatics go home with a squadron of paper airplanes for further test flights. Typically Day 4 of camp.
EUREKA Camp: Whiz Kids
Inventing means practicality! Children work together to form circuits and recreate Tesla's bright atmospher for the 1893 World's Fair along with other fun electrifying hands-on activities. Typically Day 2 of this camp.
