Experience Mad Science Enrichment Camps

Are you looking for a fun, educational way to keep your child learning while school is out this summer? Unleash your child’s inner scientist with Mad Science Summer Camps! With 8 unique camp themes, over 23 camp locations in Maine & Southern New Hampshire, Mad Science offers a variety of camp options for children ages 6-12 years old!

Our innovative summer day camps are guaranteed to engage and expand your child's mind, as well as offer them a big dose of fun. Your child will be given the opportunity to “DO” science through a daily combination of in-class discovery and exploration, outdoor games and physical activities, and hands-on applications of the scientific principles presented. They will touch, see, hear, smell, and taste what science is really all about.

FORMAT- All of our camps are offered in a full-day format from 9-3pm, all week long Monday through Friday. Children can be dropped off as early as 8:30am. Before and After-Care is available in Portland, Waterville, North Yarmouth Academy, and a few other partner locations.
AGES- Most of our Camps are offered to children Ages 6-12 years old. One Pre-K camp is available for Ages 4-5, but only in select communities. Both the new "Mission: Code" and "Makers of the Future" camp are for Ages 7-12.

CAMP ENVIROMENT- We aspire to create an environment that is in every way safe, where encouragement, laughter, and fun are the standard. We provide 2 trained staff for every camp theme and cap our programs at 20 to engender this setting. We stand apart from other camps and maintain quality with our maximum 10:1 camper to instructor ratio. This supports the safe enviroment we build and allows for specialized attention to the varying grade levels during hands-on activities and projects.

UNIQUE PROGRAMMING- How do we make science fun? These are our main ingredients: interactive demonstrations, high quality equipment that's updated annually , hands-on individual & group activities, uniquely themed take-home projects, active learning games, and engaging outdoor activities. All Mad Science programs are developed by a team of professional educators, scientists, and entertainers to ensure they are accurate, educational, safe, and fun. Our Research and Development team spends years developing and testing unique curriculum that is kid tested and parent approved!

CAMP THEMES- We offer several themes that give your child the opportunity to learn about a full range of topics in the three main branches of science, as well as technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Read more about camp themes and why our enirhcment curriculum offers a high quality experience for your child.

CAMP LOCATIONS- We offer 1-2 camp themes all summer long at our main location in Portland. We also partner with various community organizations, recreation centers, and public & private schools throughout Maine & Southern New Hampshire, offering 1-3 weeks of camp programming. For the first time this 2018 summer season, we will be offering some camps in Southern New Hampshire. Topics will be released during the Spring Season.

REGISTRATION- We offer two types of camps; "Mad Science Directed" and "Partner Camps". Registration depends on the type of camp. The first type is run directly by Mad Science of Maine and we handle all aspects of enrollment through our online registration system. For "Partner Camps," the prices, hours, and policies are determined by each partner organization. Registrations are taken directly through our Partners. All registration details for all types of programs can be found here.

DYNAMIC EDUCATORS- At Mad Science, we follow the model of being the facilitators of enriching experiences for children. We do this through the implementation of the inquiry-based science method in our camp curriculum and engaging program facilitation techniques. Our dynamic Mad Scientists provide the necessary tools, guidance, and concepts for children to embark upon fun scientific investigations in a safe enviroment. We hire qualified individuals who have experience working with children and are skilled at getting kids excited about science. Each camp has a Lead and an Assistant Instructor. They receive a criminal background check, comprehensive orientation, and individualized curriculum training.

We are noted for our trademark 'edu-tainment' philosophy, which cultivates incredible enthusiasm and a sense of wonder in children. We believe that children are born scientists, naturally curious about the world around them and full of questions waiting to be engaged. Our core philosophies that science should be fun, hands-on, engaging, and inquiry based help frame how we develop and facilitate our camp programs. Our experiential and inquiry-based approaches are central to giving your child a scientifically awesome experience as we put a special focus on questioning and experimentation. We seek to inspire "agency" in children and place an emphasis on trying new things, learning by doing, and enjoying the process of discovery.

Summer Camps
My daughter is eight and was a little hesitant about going on Monday morning. At pick up on Monday she couldnot stop talking about all the things they did. My laid back 11 year old son was just as chatty and when the week of Reactions in Action camp was over I asked him what he thought of his week. His response was "Mom, it was facinating!!" I couldn't have asked for more. We are excited about next year. My son hopes that you create a camp for 13 and up.

Summer Camps
The robotics camp was a HUGE hit with our nearly 8-year old daughter. She was so excited to bring home her own creation each day and to tell us what she learned about electricity. I was impressed with the creativity and physics involved in getting the robots to move 'just so.' I was very happy to find this robotics camp for the younger age to capitalize on her love of science that is just blooming. The location was convenient with easy, safe access. There were a fair number of girls enrolled as well which is becoming more important as she gets older. Thanks so much! We will look to do this one again.

Thank you Mad Science for furthering my son's love of science. He looked forward to going every day and then trying out his experiments for the family when he got home in the afternoons. Thank you for making learning fun!
