How does sound travel? What are clouds made of? How old would you be if you lived on Saturn? Join Mad Science after school and explore these countless wonders of science! Go on an explorative journey into the depths of the sea to see what life beyond the waves has to offer. Then voyage to the center of the Earth as you investigate earthquakes. Blend some mixtures of your own and then use various tools to sperate them. Examine sound waves by changing the pitch of your voice. Even take a spacewalk mission that simulates a solar panel repair on the International Space Station! Investigate 3-D technology and use an animation machine that turns still images into a moving picture. Albert Einstein said: “The process of scientific discovery is, in effect, a continual flight from wonder.”  Come take a hands-on flight with your imagination into the many marvels of science!

Grades: K-5th

Classes include:  Movie Effects, Earthworks, Living in Space, Science of Toys, Sonic Sounds, Walloping Weather, Life                                                               In The Sea, and Mix It Up

Do you have a big appetite for fun and insatiable curiosity? Come “Take a Bite Out of Science” with our indulging afterschool program full of exciting sampler “courses” that will satiate your imagination! Unravel the mystery of chemistry and watch crystals form in a water glass. Experiment with hovercrafts and mix up a foaming crazy concoction. Build and take-home a Technicolor Blender to demonstrate Newton’s color wheel invention and even learn about adaptations of wild animals. Grab your ticket to the stars and investigate the sky with your own pocket sky map. Walk in the shoes of a detective and examine fingerprints, mystery powders, and ink samples. Get bug eyed with an Insect-A-Vision take home that gives you an insect’s point of view. Whether you like your science savory, spicy, or sweet, this class is sure to satisfy your inquisitive appetite.

We have Robotics down to a science and have designed an innovative and enriching program just for you! We invite you to expand your robotic curiosity after school by getting hands-on with modular robotic systems and various types of robots to get firsthand experience with circuity, coding, mechanical systems, programming, real life applications, and much more. Snap together blocks to build your own circuits and explore sensors by coding a robot to do various tricks and curious movements. Program a robot through the Wild West, avoiding snakes and rivers to get it to its destination. Discover robots that go to space and intelligent humanoid robots that bring you as much learning as they do entertainment. Build your own series of thinking, sensing, and acting robots that exhibit novel behaviors of your own making. Finish off this radical session of robotics by building your very own robot to take home. Come learn Robotics the Mad Science way!

Classes include: Robot Challenge, Gear it up, Robot Building-TableTop Robot ), Robots In Action, Shocking Isn’t It?, Real Life Robots, Get Your Code On, & Sensory Overload.

Grades: K-5th

***Please note that your child will not build a take-home project everyday. Children only build one robot during the course of this After School Session in the Robot Building class which they will be able to take home after class. Due to the high cost of robots and typical high complexity of robotic kits, Mad Science of Maine's choice for the robot build falls within the guidelines of cost and a child's ability to build the robot in a one hour class. Robots of higher cost and complexity would require several days of building. If you wish to know more about robotic kits and approriate kits for elementary age children, please contact us at info@madsciencemaine.com.

The Mad Science BRIXOLOGY Program sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! This program is unlike any Bricks program your kid has ever done! Kids learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO® bricks. They learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. They explore mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles. That’s not all, from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills. Let the tinkering begin!

Classes Include: Vehicles, Creatures, Aerospace, Bridges, Carnivals, Structures, Machines, and Boats

<Mission: Code>

In the Mad Science Mission Code program, kids learn and apply the basic principles of coding in a fun and educational game-like environment.  The program helps them strengthen their math skills, visualize abstract concepts, and engage in creative problem solving.  It also prepares them for a world where digital literacy is as important as reading and writing. Children will be given their own online account to the Mad Science coding platform and will have free access to this platform for up to 1 year!

Classes include:  Mission 1: Programming & Sequences, Mission 2: For Loops, Mission 3: Relative Directions, Mission 4: Algorithms ,Mission 5: Functions, Mission 6: Variables ,Mission 7: Until Loops, & Mission 8: Conditionals.

Grades: 4-6th

***Please note that your child will not build any physical take-home projects in the Mission Code Program.  This program comes with online access to the Mad Science Coding Platform which is including in the registration fee.  Each Mission Code Student will get their own Mission Code Account and have access to this account for up to 1 year.  After the year is up, a parent may choose to pay for the annual subscription to maintain access to their childs coding account. If you have any questions please contact Mad Science of Maine by email: info@madsciencemaine.com or call us at 207-878-2222.
