STEM In-Class Workshops

Mad Science In-Class Workshops are designed by a professional team of educators and scientist. They will meet your curriculum requirements and STEM objectives. Continue reading to learn how Mad Science can help you blast off into the next century of science education.

Mad Science In-Class Workshops offer hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning methodology, standards-based pre and post assessment tools, teacher resource packages and take home cards with at-home family science experiments. Students will have the opportunity to learn by asking questions, observing demonstrations, completing experiments, and engage in exciting group projects. We provide all class materials and each student receives a take-home project that relates directly to each topic. Our programs have been correlated to match curriculum requirements for every grade level and are rich in elementary level science content.

These diversely themed, 60-90 minute inquiry-based programs can be used as a curriculum enhancement or as an introduction to science concepts not yet covered. We offer a hassle-free and convenient way for students to experience exciting, hands-on science!

How do children learn best? Most educators agree that through experiential learning, subjects (especially complex or difficult ones) are driven home for students. What’s more, when students have an opportunity to experience science, it sparks their imagination and instills an appreciation and even a passion for the subject. Plus, they have a lot of fun doing it!

Teachers do not always have the time and resources required to prepare interactive science programs. Mad Science experienced instructors come right into the teacher’s classroom with all the equipment, supplies,           and knowledge to facilitate a quality program.

Teacher Resource Packets are offered with each class. These Packets include with crosscutting concepts to help you integrate the content covered by the workshop. It provides you with activities to do before and after the workshop.

 Sample Teachers Resource Packets:

Science Pre & Post

Technology Pre & Post

Engineering Pre & Post

Our programs are fun, educational and focus on real world science and engineering practices that work to reinforce science concepts and methodologies.

Children will learn about science by touching, feeling, and even tasting their science experiments. We leave students inspired and hungry to learn more.

We bring science alive! We will provide your pupils with the opportunity to participate in a unique, entertaining, and educational experience. Your class will be led by your very own in-class Mad Scientist and your children will explore a topic with a mixture of interactive discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on experiments. Children are left engaged, enthused and excited about science. Click here to read some teacher testimonials.

Workshops
Mad Science was at Woodland Elementary School to do the Green Energy Workshop. My third graders absolutely loved it. The concepts were presented in a way that had the students feeling like they were actually discovering the ideas on their own! They were engaged, working together to solve problems, and very enthusiastic about learning the material. There were two students who had issues and Lightning Lucy handled them beautifully by giving them helper jobs and taking a little extra time to let them have a turn. Lucy also used some very effective transition strategies to get the students to switch materials/activities very smoothly. This was extremely worthwhile and I hope they can come back. Thank you!

Workshops
The activities presented were great hands on fun science activities. The kids loved the opportunity to work with manipulative that we just don't have available in a public school setting. I wish more time could have been available for actual "teaching" of the science behind the activities. When we "debriefed" about what they learned the next day, they were very enthusiastic about what they did, but couldn't really explain the "why" things worked. Like I said, the kids loved the activities, but as a teacher, I would like for them to understand more of the science behind it and not just have time to play. I definitely understand her time was limited by trying to get all the grades scheduled in throughout one day. The presenter did a great job keeping the kids entertained and bringing in science activities, this is just my perspective as a teacher.

Workshops
MAD Science of Maine came yesterday to Benton Elementary for a Sonic Sound Workshop. This workshop was designed to teach 1st graders all about sound, and it definitely did that! Electric Elaine (The Mad Scientist) was full of energy and ready to teach students using a variety of hands of materials that students were able to experiment with. They were able to conduct investigations and provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can make materials vibrate. And at the end of the workshop Electric Elaine gave each 1st grader a Sonic Horn to take home. Students left the workshop eager to share with their families all that they learned about Sonic Sound! Thank you Electric Elaine and MAD Science of Maine for this incredible workshop that aligns perfectly with the Next Generation Science Standards!
