At Mad Science we believe even the youngest children are naturally curious and constantly exploring the world around them.  Preschool children already have some basic science skills; they are curious, keen observers and energetic explorers. Classroom science can provide them with the opportunity to extend this natural curiosity and thus develop a greater understanding of the natural world. We believe that children should be encouraged to explore materials, ask questions, investigate, and reflect upon what they have done and what it means. Together, if we engage young learners with science, we build their confidence in themselves and their environment, increase their observation skills, and assist with the development of language & sensory, physical, emotional, intellectual, & social attributes.

Why not build on these interests in science at a young age? At Mad Science, our central teaching philosophy is science is something you do. It is our belief that active exploration is the cornerstone of building a understanding the world. The whole philosophy of “science as a verb” is reflected in the way we approach teaching and the curriculum we use to engage young minds; teachers that our guides in learning process and curriculum that is both exciting and safe.  It's this approach that makes learning science fun! What better active explorers of the world can you find than children?

Our entire curriculum encourages children to be the discoverers and experimenters. We offer a variety of programs for preschool children. By booking programs with us, we would provide your preschoolers with direct experience with materials and equipment, and a framework for scientific discovery. We engage children in in-depth exploration of a variety of topics. For Preschools and Day Care Centers, we offer a Once a Month Science Adventure Program, a 6-week After Hours Science Club, and Preschool Shows & Discovery Booths for your Special Event. Workshops
Elaine was fabulous as always. She knows how to engage young children and her science expertise is evident. She also goes above and beyond to help teachers extend learning into the classrooms. I always look forward to this event. We've been fortunate to have Elaine teach many workshops, and she is by far the best.

Workshops
Mad Science was at Woodland Elementary School to do the Green Energy Workshop. My third graders absolutely loved it. The concepts were presented in a way that had the students feeling like they were actually discovering the ideas on their own! They were engaged, working together to solve problems, and very enthusiastic about learning the material. There were two students who had issues and Lightning Lucy handled them beautifully by giving them helper jobs and taking a little extra time to let them have a turn. Lucy also used some very effective transition strategies to get the students to switch materials/activities very smoothly. This was extremely worthwhile and I hope they can come back. Thank you!

Workshops
The activities presented were great hands on fun science activities. The kids loved the opportunity to work with manipulative that we just don't have available in a public school setting. I wish more time could have been available for actual "teaching" of the science behind the activities. When we "debriefed" about what they learned the next day, they were very enthusiastic about what they did, but couldn't really explain the "why" things worked. Like I said, the kids loved the activities, but as a teacher, I would like for them to understand more of the science behind it and not just have time to play. I definitely understand her time was limited by trying to get all the grades scheduled in throughout one day. The presenter did a great job keeping the kids entertained and bringing in science activities, this is just my perspective as a teacher.
