Library Impact Shows

Want to promote reading at your library this summer and looking for a quality program to do so? Every year Mad Science of Maine develops a customized, interactive show for the Collaborative Summer Library Program. We are very pleased to announce an engineering themed show correlated to this year's "Build A Better World" theme. Our innovatively designed "Engineering A Better World" show is a sure way to get your youth excited about reading and think critically about how engineers can positively influence our world. We offer many programs to libraries throughout the year and we are your synergistic partner in enrichment. Our shows offer an originative way to ignite the imagination of young readers and can be used to kick off, support, and celebrate your summer reading theme. Let us work together this year to build a better world by enriching the minds of those who are our future, our children.

Show Description: Children will step into the shoes of engineers in this spectacular science show designed to launch their imaginations into the boundless field of engineering! Captivating demonstrations and interactive experiments will inspire our next generation to think about how engineers design things to make the world a better place. We will have a smashing good time with the engineering design process as children team up with fellow civil engineers to build a 6-foot roman arch. We will even reach beyond the sky to explore aerospace engineering with an explosive rocket launch. An intelligent robot will display some pretty impressive Kung Fu and yoga moves that will get kids excited about robotics engineering. Oozing chemical reactions and a demonstration of a space age polymer will make children contemplate groundbreaking possibilities in chemical engineering. A “sparking” demonstration will electrify creativity and an amusing experiment with alternative energy will encourage children to ponder the future of this innovation. Children are our future, building a better world can must with sparking their imagination and getting them excited about engineering today!

(Please note there are several other Show Topics to choose from if your Library is not following the Collaborative Summer Library Program.)

Our Programs mix cool science themes, interactive experiments, music, innovative and custom made equipment, and open-ended storytelling. They are designed using a unique fusion of education, entertainment, and fun! Additionally, we bring immense experience as practiced enrichment providers. We have been presenting high-quality enrichment programs to Maine children for 15 years. On a monthly basis, we serve approximately 1600 Maine children through our diverse range of programming and in the summer that number doubles. We are well know in most Maine communities, servicing all the way up to Presque Isle down to Kittery. Our high energy, exciting performances will inspire the inner scientist in all who participate. Our curriculum is developed by a professional team of scientists and educators and is updated annually to ensure the highest quality. All shows are brought to life by professional Mad Scientists who are experts at making learning fun.  Click here to read more about our Mad Scientists. We have all the ingredients to make a HUGE impact at your Library.

There are many benefits to partnering with Mad Science of Maine. Our programs are designed to spark the imagination of all students, not just those that have a general interest in science. The reason why we reach a broad scope of children is quite simple, we make learning FUN! With our interactive reading Impact Show's, we encourage young minds to mine the library this summer to read books that will keep them digging for more knowledge. And of course, we turn kids onto science. Science not only increases language and literacy, but it also responds to children’s need to learn about the world around them. Mad Science offers new ways of considering familiar objects and events and provides a meaningful context to introduce new vocabulary and science concepts to children. Moreover, we are complementary partners in the STEM education effort and offer many programs to excite youth about STEM topics and careers.

We have served many Maine Libraries throughout the years. For the 2015 Summer Reading Program alone, we teamed up with 46 libraries in Maine to present our Impact Show. Check out some testimonials from your fellow Librarians.

"Belgrade Public Library hosted the Fizz Pop Boom program as part of our Summer Reading program. "Marvin Molecule" was fantastic! He kept the kids engaged, entertained, and very involved while maintaining great crowd control. There were explosions and chemical reactions, gooey worms created from liquid, rockets, and so much more. Kids answered questions and were so excited to become Assistant Mad Scientists that they learned without realizing it! Plus the parents were thrilled! Highly recommended. Thanks for a GREAT program!"               -Janet, Belgrade, ME

"We were thrilled with the Mad Science show we booked to kick off the summer reading program at Harrison Village Library! It was informative, entertaining, and gave kids a chance to be part of the show. Three cheers for Lightning Lucy and Mad Science!"  -Kathleen Kramer, Harrison, ME,

"For the third year in a row Mad Science has been the finale for our Summer Reading Program. Each year the children are thrilled to see science in action here at the library. Even the adults get caught up in the excitement of the experiments! I look forward to next year's show here at Denmark Public library."
-Robin Gosbee, Denmark, ME

Mad Science is a Blast! The Mad Scientist who visited our Library whipped up a lab in no time, and before we knew it we had lightning bolts sizzling, strange chemicals turning colors, even great big jets of fire and more! It was some amazing science, and our Mad Scientist was equally as amazing with a large crowd of children, picking volunteer scientists to help with experiments and putting on a show that kept everyone riveted! If you have a chance to watch Mad Science, we highly recommend it! -Will Brown, Children’s Librarian, Falmouth Memorial Library

"We just had a Mad Science event for our Summer Reading Program. It was one of the best programs we've ever had at our library, hands-down. "Lightning Lucy" was phenomenal, and the kids were completely thrilled with the program. It was educational, exciting, fun...just perfect. Thank you!" -Jenny Kelley, Kittery, ME

"Rockport Public Library hosted Mad Science Spook-tacular program and we have to say it was Spec-tacular. "Lightning Lucy" was very engaging and incorporated lots of audience participation. Thank you for a wonderful program!" -Kim, Rockport, ME
